Balanced Mix Design Training Course

The concept of Balanced Mix Design (BMD) is one that is quickly gaining acceptance across the United States. Bluegrass Testing Laboratory, in partnership with the Plantmix Asphalt Industry of Kentucky, has created a Balanced Mix Design course that teaches experienced mix designers the concepts and elements involved in a BMD. This course is intended to answer industy and agency questions regarding the intricacies and ramifications of a Balanced Mix Design.

In this two-day course, participants will cover the actual development of a real world Balanced Mix Design and evaluate mix performance. The course will also cover:

  • Review of the four options for Balanced Mix Design (Approaches A, B, C and D) specified in the AASHTO Draft specification.
  • Development of a Balanced Mix Design with two binder grades (polymer & non-polymer modified) that will examine IDEAL CT-Index and Flexibility Index (Crack Testing), Hamburg and APA Wheel Testing (Rut Testing), Cantabro and Continuous Binder grading for the various blends.

The sessions are designed to be highly interactive and include laboratory demonstrations. Questions from attendees are highly encouraged.

This course will be held February 19 - February 20, 2020 at the Bluegrass Testing Laboratory in Louisville, KY.
